The most recent public reference we found organizes the price by how many musicians take the stage. All values are in Chilean pesos (CLP) and correspond to one hour of performance:

Notice that the range is wide: the highest value is almost five times the lowest in each row. That is why no single figure works as a fixed price. Use them to know whether a quote is within what is expected or whether they are asking for much more (or suspiciously less).
Why does one mariachi charge more than another?
The same guide mentions seven variables that move the price, and it pays to have them clear before asking for quotes:
- Group size: more musicians, more voices, more instruments and more pay to split.
- Length: a full hour does not cost the same as a few songs.
- Location and type of venue: a house, a hall or a restaurant involve different setups.
- Experience and reputation: a group with a track record usually quotes higher.
- Travel and logistics: some groups charge extra for going to certain comunas.
- Additional services: dancing, special costumes, amplification.
- Type of event and date: an ordinary Tuesday is not the same as a birthday on a long weekend.

These city ranges are higher than those for a single musician because they start from an assembled group. For Viña del Mar we did not find a published figure, so we do not give one: if you live there, look at the Valparaíso values only as a reference and ask for a quote.
How do you compare quotes without getting surprises?
Before saying yes to a price, ask every group the same questions so you can really compare them:
- How many musicians come and with what instruments?
- Is the hour of actual music or does it include setup and travel time?
- How many songs fit in that time? (we cover it in this guide)
- Is there a surcharge for your comuna or for a special date?
- How is it paid and what happens if the group does not show up?
Also ask them to confirm everything in writing. A price without details is not a price, it is an intention. And if the budget is short, a duo or a trio can give a very nice serenata (serenade) for less money than a full mariachi.
How do you use these ranges to build your budget?
Start with what you have: how much you can spend and how many people will be listening. With that cap in hand, find the row that applies to you and ask two or three groups for a quote. If the budget does not reach the format you imagined, do not give it up: go down a step in number of musicians or shorten the length. A 20-minute serenade with three musicians can be more moving than a continuous hour with five and a rushed setup.
It also helps to add the costs that do not always appear in the first figure: travel, amplification if the venue is large, and any extras such as costumes or dancing. Ask for the total, not the base rate. And remember that these ranges are public references from September 2026; prices change, so ask again close to the date of your event.
