The index in five numbers

  1. $2,000 to $4,500 MXN per hour

That's what it costs to hire a mariachi in Mexico on a regular day, for the standard 6 to 8 musician lineup. 12-piece groups reach $6,000-$8,000 per hour.

  2. Up to $10,000 MXN per hour

The night of the Grito, September 15 and 16, is the most expensive of the year: mariachi prices rise 30% to 100%, and in Mexico City they can double. The cause isn't just demand, it's limited availability: the date can't be moved to another weekend.

  3. Up to 3 times the base rate

May 10 (Mother's Day in Mexico) is the single biggest peak in serenade demand all year, ahead of February 14 and September 15.

  4. 20% to 40% more expensive

In the Caribbean wedding destinations, Cancún and Tulum, music costs more than the national average, with packages ranging from $3,500 to $100,000 per event.

  5. $10,000 to $50,000 MXN per event

The wedding party cover band is the highest ticket in the market, above mariachi, trios and soloists. At large Mexico City weddings it reaches $60,000.

Bonus fact. Within the Greater Mexico City metro area, the State of Mexico quotes 30% to 40% below central Mexico City for the same format: Ecatepec from $1,500 per hour versus $3,200 or more in central Mexico City.

How was this index built?

This index doesn't make up numbers: it aggregates and cross-checks published, verifiable price ranges, all from the 2024-2026 period, from three types of sources.

  1. National and local press that publishes price guides every season, on February 14, May 10 and September 15. The fact that general news outlets cover what a mariachi costs every year is itself a sign of massive demand for this information.
  2. Directories and horizontal marketplaces, with vendor listings that state a from-to range.
  3. Vendor websites with public prices by city and format.

All amounts are in Mexican pesos (MXN). Unless stated per event, per song or per package, they are expressed per hour for each lineup's reference format.

What it doesn't include yet.serenattia is building its own transactional benchmark with the real quote ranges inside the marketplace. That primary data isn't published yet and will be added once there is verifiable volume. It isn't reported here to avoid mixing public estimates with unaudited proprietary data.

How much does a mariachi cost in each city?

Mariachi per hour is the lineup with the most comparable public data across cities, so it is used as the reference index. Ranges are for regular days unless a peak is noted.

When do prices go up, and by how much?

Mexico has a very marked calendar of demand peaks. The surcharge isn't an urban legend: it's a measurable pattern documented by the press year after year. The main cause isn't just demand but limited availability, because holidays can't be moved to another weekend.

September 15 and 16 · Mexican Independence Day

Prices go up 30% to 100%. In Mexico City they reach $10,000 per hour; Guadalajara $3,500 to $7,000, Monterrey $4,000 to $8,000 and Querétaro $4,000 to $7,500.

May 10 · Mother's Day (Mexico)

The number one peak of the year for serenades: up to 3 times the base rate.

February 14 · Valentine's Day

A short, intense peak. In Mexico City, $1,500 to $3,500 per serenade.

December 12 · Our Lady of Guadalupe

Massive nationwide demand for mañanitas across the country.

October to December · Company holiday parties (posadas)

Calendars fill up as November goes on. Norteño, DJ and party cover bands are the standard formats.

Rule of thumb. The only variable the person booking controls is when they book. Locking in a national holiday date in July or August, or a wedding 3 to 6 months ahead, is what avoids last-minute surcharges.
