A home-delivered serenata (serenade) with a banda is a performance by a wind and percussion group, with a lot of volume and a party atmosphere. It needs open space, notice to the neighbors and good coordination of the schedule. It is booked online, with the price in plain view, and the payment is held in escrow until the group arrives.

When does a banda serenade make sense?

Banda is the option for those who want it to be noticed. It is the music of big parties, quinceañeras, weddings and birthdays with many guests. If the person you are surprising enjoys regional music with force and loves to dance, banda is a safe bet.

It is also worth asking yourself what atmosphere you want to create. A banda is not for an intimate moment in a small living room; it is for a patio, a terrace, a garage or a hall with space. If what you are after is tenderness, a trio or a guitarist with voice will be better. If you are after a party, banda.

Space, volume and neighbors: what you should check

A banda fills the space with sound. Before booking, think about these points:

  • Physical space: ask the musician how many members will attend and how much room they need.
  • Volume: on a residential street, the sound can be heard several houses away.
  • Time: choose a reasonable hour, especially if there are children or older people nearby.
  • Neighbors: a kind notice the day before avoids misunderstandings.
  • Venue rules: in subdivisions, gated communities or halls, check whether there are restrictions on live music.

A good musician knows how to adapt to the place: ask whether they can adjust the volume or the length depending on the space where they will play.

Songs that work with a banda

Banda repertoire is very wide, with love songs, party songs and toast songs. Some ideas by occasion:

  • Birthday: a birthday song, some of the honoree's favorites and a couple to dance to.
  • Quinceañera: cheerful songs the whole family can sing along to.
  • Anniversary: a ballad for the couple and then something festive.
  • Graduation: songs of celebration and family pride.

Share your favorite songs when booking and confirm with the musician that they play them.

Prices and how it is paid

A group's price depends on the city, its size and what its rate includes. On Serenattia prices are visible and there is no exclusivity. The lowest ones published today by musicians (October 2026, MXN, before the service fee) are: Mexico City from MX$1,500, Puebla from MX$1,300, Mérida from MX$1,700, Cancún from MX$1,800, Playa del Carmen from MX$2,000, Toluca from MX$2,200, Querétaro from MX$2,400, Monterrey from MX$2,500, Cuernavaca from MX$3,600 and Guadalajara from MX$4,000. They are starting prices for any genre, not a specific quote for banda; a large group can cost more. See the price index for ranges.

You pay 100% when you book and the money is held in escrow. It is released to the musician at the event, when you scan their QR code before they play. If they do not arrive, the payment is not released. In addition to the rate, a service fee of 10% is paid (minimum MX$200), the musician receives 100% of their rate and, if you need an invoice, the 16% VAT goes on top.

How to book and organize the day

Search the list of musicians, filter by your city and review the available groups. The Serenattia team confirms the availability of each booking, so you will soon know whether your date is held.

Before the event

Confirm the address, time and number of musicians. Make sure there is space and access for the group. If there is a gatehouse or doorman, leave notice ahead of time.

During the serenade

Designate one person to receive the group and coordinate the order of songs with the musician. Another person can take care of recording. Try to have the honoree in a visible spot, and have guests come close to sing and applaud.

Afterward

If you like, offer the group something to drink as a gesture of thanks. Ask beforehand what the musician's custom is. Scan the QR on time, so the payment is released when it should be.

Banda or mariachi: how to decide

If you are torn between the two, think about the type of party. The mariachi has a more traditional and endearing sound, with violins and trumpets that accompany songs of love and family. The banda has a more powerful and festive sound, made for dancing, toasting and singing at the top of your lungs. If the person has traditional tastes or the occasion is sentimental, mariachi is safer. If the occasion is a big party and what you want is energy, banda wins. And if you are still not convinced, check the list for which groups are in your city: sometimes availability decides the choice.

A practical warning

Before hiring, check whether your subdivision, gated community or building has rules about live music. Some areas ask for advance notice and others have time limits. Knowing this beforehand keeps the serenade from being interrupted halfway through.

Frequently asked questions

Does a banda fit in a small patio?

It depends on how many musicians attend. Ask the musician what space they need and, if the place is very small, consider a more compact format such as a trio or a norteño.

Do I need to notify the neighbors?

It is recommended. A kind notice in advance avoids annoyance and makes the surprise more pleasant for everyone.

Can I request specific songs?

Normally yes. Share them when booking and confirm with the musician that they play them.

How is my payment protected?

You pay when you book, but the money is held in escrow and is only released when you scan the musician's QR before they play. If they do not arrive, it is not released.

Can I ask for an invoice?

Yes. If you need an invoice, it is issued and the 16% VAT goes on top of the total.
