A congratulations serenade (serenata para felicitar) is live music you give someone to celebrate an achievement: a promotion, a graduation, a passed exam, a new home. You choose the group, the song and the place, book online and the musicians arrive to give the surprise. It is congratulating with something that is heard and remembered.

Why congratulate with a serenade?

A phone message is read in seconds and gets lost among a hundred others. A bouquet of flowers wilts in a week. A serenade, on the other hand, is lived: the person hears their name, sees the musicians, laughs, gets emotional and almost always tells about it afterward. It is a congratulation with witnesses and with memory.

It is also useful when the achievement is one that deserves more than a "congratulations." Finishing a degree, passing a competitive exam, getting a business off the ground or overcoming a difficult situation are moments that call for something with weight. Live music delivers it.

For which achievements does it work best?

  • Graduations: on the eve or when arriving home from the ceremony.
  • Promotions and new jobs: a serenade at home at night, with the family present.
  • Exams and competitions: to celebrate with those who supported them.
  • New home or new business: an inauguration serenade, warm and brief.
  • Birthdays with an extra reason: when besides turning a year older, there is something to celebrate.

If the achievement is private or delicate, first ask someone close whether they would like a public surprise. Some people prefer to celebrate with family, without neighbors watching.

Which songs to choose?

The music should say "I am proud of you." Some ideas: triumphant, cheerful songs in mariachi style, an affectionate bolero with a trio, or a song the person was already singing before their achievement. If you do not know what to choose, ask the musicians for advice: they know celebration repertoire and know how to estimate the length.

How much does a congratulations serenade cost?

Each musician sets their own rate according to format and length. As of October 2026, the lowest published price is MX$1,300 in Puebla, MX$1,500 in Mexico City, MX$1,700 in Mérida, MX$2,400 in Querétaro and MX$2,500 in Monterrey, among other markets, before the service fee. You can see more cities in the Mexico live music price index.

A 10% service fee is added to the rate, with a minimum of MX$200. For example, with a rate of MX$2,400 you would pay MX$240 in fees, for a total of MX$2,640. The musician receives 100% of their rate. If you need an invoice, the 16% VAT is added on top.

How to book without risk

You pay 100% when booking and the money is held in escrow: it does not reach the musician until the day of the event, when you scan their QR code before they play. The Serenattia team confirms the availability of each booking, so you do not depend on a message someone leaves unanswered.

  1. Choose the city and genre in the musician list.
  2. Compare rates and repertoire.
  3. Give the date, time and address; in the notes add the honoree's name and the reason for the achievement.
  4. Pay and wait for confirmation.
  5. On the day of the event, scan the musician's QR before they start.

Details that make the difference

Tell the musicians what the person achieved; they can mention it before the first song. Let the family know so they are ready with their phones. And choose a moment when the person is not in a hurry: a rushed serenade loses half its effect. If there is a video or a message you want to read at the end, prepare it ahead of time.

Ideas to personalize the congratulation

What turns a serenade into a personal gift is the details. Ask the musicians to say the person's name and the reason for the celebration before the first song. If there is a song that has to do with their story (the first one they danced to with their partner, the one their grandmother used to sing), include it. If the achievement was long and hard, a song about perseverance can hit harder than one that is pure party.

You can also combine the music with another gesture: a handwritten card, a toast with the family, a video from friends who could not be there. The serenade is the centerpiece, but the context makes it unforgettable. And if the person is of few words, give them a few minutes at the end to say thanks; they will almost always want to say something.

When it is best to do it

Night is usually the best time for a serenade at home, because more people are gathered and the atmosphere is calm. For a professional achievement, a Friday or Saturday afternoon lets colleagues come. For a graduation, the eve gives time to rehearse the surprise; on the day itself, the celebration may be overloaded with schedule. Choose the moment when the person can enjoy it without rushing.
