A versatile group (grupo versátil) is quoted within the national range of MX$10,000 to MX$50,000 per event, and the package normally includes audio equipment, lighting, emceeing and a DJ for the breaks. At large weddings in Mexico City it reaches up to MX$60,000. Querétaro does not have a documented local range for a normal day, so the figures are national and we say so upfront.
It is the most expensive format on the list and also the one that solves the most things at once: hiring a versatile group means hiring the music, the sound, the lights and the hosting of the night in a single line item. When it is compared with the sum of hiring all of that separately, the gap narrows considerably.
How much does a versatile group cost in Querétaro?
The ranges worth starting your quotes with and their direct alternatives. In the guide to live music prices in Querétaro you can see all the formats in the city in a single table.
| Format | Range in MXN per event | Source of the figure |
|---|---|---|
| Versatile group | MX$10,000 to MX$50,000 | National range |
| Large wedding with production (CDMX reference) | up to MX$60,000 | CDMX figure |
| Professional DJ as an alternative, 6 to 7 h | MX$15,000 to MX$25,000 | National range |
| Normal day in Querétaro | No local figure published | Use the national range |
The MX$40,000 difference between the ends of the range is explained by three variables: number of members (from six to fifteen changes everything), level of audio and lighting production, and hours of service. A seven-member versatile group for four hours in an enclosed hall and a twelve-member one with production for a garden wedding are not the same product.
What does that price include and what is charged separately?
This is the format where the price includes the most things, and that is why each one has to be verified. A complete package brings: musicians and singers, audio equipment sized for the number of guests, dance floor and stage lighting, emceeing or hosting of the night's moments, and a DJ to cover the group's breaks, which is what avoids awkward silences. What is frequently charged separately: extra hours, out-of-town travel, lodging for the group when the event is far away and ends in the early morning, a stage if the venue does not have one, a generator, and special setups such as screens or effects. In Querétaro two of these items are almost automatic: if your wedding is on the wine route or at a hacienda in the corridor toward San Juan del Río, count on travel, and if the group comes from another city, count on lodging. Ask about them from the first quote.
The two clients of the versatile group in Querétaro
This is where this city separates from the others. Querétaro has two high-ticket markets that barely overlap, and the versatile group is the only format that plays in both.
The first is the hacienda and vineyard wedding. The area of Ezequiel Montes, Tequisquiapan, Bernal and Cadereyta, together with the corridor of haciendas toward San Juan del Río, became a wedding destination with guests traveling from Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. These are full-weekend, outdoor events with a production budget. There the versatile group rules because it is the only format that sustains a five-hour dance floor with live music without energy drops, and because guests coming from out of town expect a level of show that a DJ alone does not deliver. It is also where travel and lodging really weigh on the quote, because of the real distance from the capital. The full overview of this market is in musicians for a wedding in Querétaro.
The second is the corporate gala dinner. Querétaro's industrial corridor, with automotive and aerospace plants in El Marqués, the Benito Juárez industrial zone and the surroundings of the intercontinental airport, generates plant anniversaries, year-end dinners and conventions with international executives. That client hires a versatile group for a practical reason: they need a single provider that handles audio, lights, microphones for the speeches, background music during dinner and dancing afterward. Coordinating four providers for a dinner of 400 employees is not viable, and the versatile group comes already integrated. This segment is quoted differently: with an invoice, with a contract and with much stricter schedule requirements than a wedding.
A third use that has its own volume in this city is the high-profile quinceañera, which in Querétaro follows the same pattern as weddings: a large hall or garden, production and a long night.
When is it best to book in Querétaro?
This is the format with the tightest calendar in the whole city, because the good groups are few and can only cover one event per night. Peak wedding season runs from September to November and from February to May. The corporate season starts in October and saturates in November and December, and in Querétaro that peak is stronger than in other cities because of the weight of industry: by the time November arrives, the groups with full production no longer have Saturdays. For a Saturday in peak wedding season, four to six months ahead is realistic. For a December company dinner, close it in August or September. If your date falls on the night of September 15, add that on that day all formats in the city rise between 30% and 100%: the only documented local figure for Querétaro on the national holiday is for mariachi, up to MX$7,500 per hour, but the effect on the calendar and the price is general.
How to choose without overpaying?
First, do the comparative sum before deciding. A professional DJ at MX$15,000 to MX$25,000 plus lighting, plus emceeing, plus a live format for the dance block can come very close to a mid-range versatile group, and sometimes end up costing more. The comparison with numbers is in DJ or versatile group for a wedding. Second, verify the break DJ. It is the detail that separates a smooth night from a night with three twenty-minute gaps, and not every package includes it even if they mention it. Third, ask for the list of members in writing. A group advertised with twelve that shows up with eight is the most frequent complaint in this format, and it is easy to prevent by putting it on record. Fourth, define the real block of live music. Almost no dance floor holds up under five hours of a live band without dipping; the normal thing is three or four sets with the DJ covering the rest, and hiring more does not improve the party. And keep in mind that when booking through Serenattia the client pays a 10% service fee, with a minimum of MX$200, visible from the quote.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a versatile group cost in Querétaro?
It is quoted within the national range of MX$10,000 to MX$50,000 per event. Querétaro has no published local range for a normal day, so we use the national one and say so instead of estimating a local figure.
What does the price include?
Normally musicians and singers, audio equipment, lighting, emceeing and a DJ for the breaks. Charged separately: extra hours, out-of-town travel, lodging if the event is far away, a stage, a generator and special setups.
Is a DJ better?
It depends on the sum. A professional DJ runs MX$15,000 to MX$25,000 for 6 or 7 hours, but if you add lighting, emceeing and a live format, the total approaches that of a mid-range versatile group.
Do they charge for travel and lodging if the wedding is on the wine route?
Travel almost always, and lodging when the event ends in the early morning or the group comes from another city. It is 45 to 70 minutes each way from the capital, so ask for it itemized from the first quote.
How far in advance should I book?
Four to six months for a Saturday in peak wedding season. For a December company dinner, in August or September: in Querétaro the year-end corporate calendar closes earlier than in other cities.
