For a serenata (serenade) on Secretary's Day, choose the moment (on arrival, at lunchtime or at closing), a musical format that fits in the office and some thank-you songs, and book ahead on Serenattia. It can be invoiced and the 100% payment is held in escrow until the event.

Why is a serenade better than a bouquet or a box of chocolates?

It is common to give flowers, chocolates or a meal on Secretary's Day, and they are kind gestures. But they almost always look alike, and the person receives them at a desk among papers and calls. A serenade changes the scene: for a moment the team stops, listens and recognizes the person who usually solves everything without anyone noticing. It is a visible, shared and moving gesture, one that says thank you in front of everyone, and that weighs more than an object.

It is also a gift from the whole team. Everyone can contribute a part, and the result is a moment that is remembered long after the chocolates are gone.

How do you organize it in the office without complications?

  • Ask for permission: let management, human resources or whoever manages the building know, and confirm whether live music is allowed in that space and at that time.
  • Choose the moment: first thing to start the day with a surprise, at lunchtime during a toast, or at the close of the workday.
  • Define where: a meeting room, a patio, the common area or the entrance. Avoid areas with a lot of outside noise or with important meetings.
  • Coordinate the surprise: ask a trusted coworker to bring the person to the spot right on time.
  • Appoint someone responsible: If you will not be present, coordinate it with the Serenattia team when you book.

If the office is small, a trio or a violin works better than a full mariachi. If you have a patio or a large hall, the mariachi brings more presence.

What songs should you choose to say thank you?

Look for songs about gratitude, affection and joy. Avoid those that are too melancholic or that have nothing to do with the work atmosphere. A good selection has three moments: a song to open with joy, one of thanks and a final one everyone can sing.

You can also ask for a dedication with the person's name, and if there is a song they like or that makes them laugh, include it. Those personal details keep it from being a generic serenade. Ask coworkers for their favorites and share the list with the musician when you book.

Which musical genre works best?

As with flowers, each genre has its own character:

  • Mariachi: festive and traditional, ideal for a patio or a hall with space.
  • Trio: soft and close, perfect for a small office or a meeting room.
  • Norteño: with accordion and bajo sexto, for teams that like that style.
  • Violin or saxophone: sober and elegant, for a corporate atmosphere.
  • Marimba: warm and with regional flavor, for a meal or a quiet toast.

How much does it cost and can it be invoiced?

Each musician publishes their rate and there is no exclusivity. The lowest price published today on Serenattia (October 2026, before the service fee) is from MX$1,500 in Mexico City, MX$1,300 in Puebla, MX$2,400 in Querétaro, MX$2,500 in Monterrey, MX$2,200 in Toluca and MX$1,700 in Mérida, among other cities. It is a starting point: the final price changes depending on the genre, the members and the length. Check the price index for music in Mexico to compare.

A 10% service fee is added to the rate, with a minimum of MX$200, which you pay separately; the musician receives 100% of their rate. If the expense is covered by the company, it can be invoiced and the 16% VAT goes on top. To split the cost among several coworkers, calculate the total with the fee included and divide it before booking.

How do you book and what happens with the payment?

Go to the list of musicians, choose the genre, indicate date, time and address and pay 100% when booking. The Serenattia team confirms the availability of each booking. The money is held in escrow and released to the musician at the event, when you scan their QR code before they play. If the musician does not show up, the payment is not released.

Ideas to go along with the serenade

  • A card signed by the whole team, with real, short messages.
  • A small flower arrangement or a food treat for afterward.
  • A photo of the team with the musicians as a keepsake.
  • A short video with thank-yous from those who are not present.

If you want this year to be different, check the available musicians and book ahead. Saying thank you with live music is a gesture the whole team will remember.
