There are many reasons to give a serenata (serenade): it's a gift that is lived in the moment, remembered for years, personal, brings the family together, works for almost any occasion and today can be booked online with visible pricing. Here are eight concrete reasons, and how to make it easy.

When we look for a gift we usually fall back on the usual: flowers, a cake, a keepsake that wears out. All of that is fine. But if what you want is for the person to remember you when they think of that day, live music plays in another league. These are the reasons why more and more people are daring to ask for a serenade.

1. Why is a serenade remembered more than other gifts?

Because it's an experience, not an object. Objects get stored in a drawer; a serenade gets retold at the table after dinner. Whoever receives it remembers where they were, what song played and who was there. Memories with music and emotion last longer, and you can tell when someone says "Remember the serenade for my birthday?" years later.

2. Is it really a personal gift?

Yes, and you decide how much. You can choose the songs, ask them to mention a name, dedicate a song that ties you together. A bouquet of flowers is pretty but generic; a serenade with the song from your first date can't be mistaken for anyone else's gift.

3. Does it really work as a surprise?

Few things surprise as much as hearing guitars and voices outside your house. It's a surprise that can't be guessed ahead of time, unlike a box that arrives at your door. If you want to get the effect, coordinate with someone you trust so the person is at home.

4. For which occasions does it work?

For almost all of them. Birthday, anniversary, Mother's Day (May 10), February 14, graduation, asking for forgiveness, a marriage proposal, a welcome, a thank-you. And also for occasions with no date: "just because," which is sometimes the best reason.

5. Are there options for every style and budget?

Yes. It isn't all full mariachi. There are trios, norteño, banda, rondalla, saxophone, violin and marimba, depending on the city. A trio is more intimate and is usually a good entry point; a mariachi gives more presence. To locate the price range, check the music price index for Mexico.

As a reference, the lowest price published today on Serenattia (October 2026, before the service fee) is from MX$1,500 in Mexico City, MX$1,300 in Puebla, MX$1,700 in Mérida and MX$1,800 in Cancún. Each musician sets their rate.

6. How easy is it to ask for one today?

Much easier than it seems. Before, you had to get a phone number, negotiate by message and wait to see whether the group showed up. Now you can compare musicians with visible pricing, send your booking and let the Serenattia team confirm availability. Start at /musicos.

7. What about payment and trust?

It's one of the most practical reasons. You pay 100% when you book, but the money is held in escrow. It's released to the musician at the event, when you scan the musician's QR code before they play. If the group doesn't show up, the payment isn't released. In addition, the musician receives 100% of their rate and you pay a separate service fee of 10% (minimum MX$200). If you need an invoice, one can be issued; VAT (16%) goes on top.

8. Does it bring people together?

This is the most beautiful reason. A serenade gathers the family at the door, the neighbors at the windows, friends with their phones held high. It turns a birthday into an event and an apology into a scene that isn't forgotten. It gets people singing together, and almost nothing does that today.

And if you're torn between a serenade and another gift?

They don't have to compete. A serenade combines well with flowers, a cake or a dinner. What's different is that the music is what stays: you can give the bouquet, but what the person will retell is the song. If your budget is tight, book a trio or a group with just a few songs and let the emotion do the rest.

An example to help you decide

Imagine tomorrow is your mom's birthday and you want something different. You could send an arrangement, and that would be fine. Or you could book a trio or a mariachi, tell a sister to keep her at home, and at six in the evening have Las Mañanitas playing outside. She'll come out, put her hands to her face and everyone will sing. That scene is the reason a serenade is requested every year.

And you don't have to be an expert: choose the city, the group and the date, check the price and book. The rest is taken care of by the escrow payment system and the team's confirmation. Your job is to decide who you're going to give that scene to.

Frequently asked questions

Why give a serenade instead of flowers?

Because it's a live, customizable and memorable experience. Flowers are a great complement, but music is what people remember.

How many songs does a serenade include?

It depends on the musician and the rate they publish. Check the profile to see what it includes and ask whether you can choose your songs.

How much does it cost to book?

Each musician publishes their price. As of October 2026 the lowest is from MX$1,500 in Mexico City, before the 10% service fee (minimum MX$200).

What if the person isn't home?

It's best to coordinate the time with someone close. The Serenattia team confirms the availability of the booking, and you can ask the musician to adapt to the agreed time.

Can I dedicate a specific song?

Yes, it's recommended. Let the musician know in advance which song you want and who it is for.

If you already know who it's for, go to /musicos, choose your group and book.
