To hire a mariachi for a grand opening, choose the moment when they will play (guests arriving, ribbon cutting or toast), the format that fits your space, and book ahead on Serenattia. The 100% payment is held in escrow and released when you scan the musician's QR code, before they play.

Why does a mariachi work so well at a grand opening?

Opening a business, a branch or a clinic is a day you want to remember. Live music makes people stop, look in and stay, something no sign can do on its own. A mariachi brings tradition, joy and a celebratory tone that everyone understands, with nothing to explain. It is also music that invites participation: guests sing, clap and take photos with the musicians, and that turns into memories and content for your social media.

If you think of it as a welcome touch, it is the musical equivalent of a flower arrangement at the entrance: it grabs attention, sets the tone of the event and makes it clear that the day is special. The difference is that a mariachi is heard before it is seen, and that draws curious people in from the street.

At what moment of the opening is it best for them to play?

You do not need music for the full three hours. The best approach is to choose one or two key moments and make sure they shine:

  • Guests arriving: the music creates atmosphere while people come in, say hello and settle.
  • Ribbon cutting or opening the doors: a fanfare song right at the moment of the cut is the most photographed part of the event.
  • Toast: a song for raising glasses, with people close by and paying attention.
  • Close or farewell: one last song that thanks everyone for visiting.

If the budget is limited, a single short block at the moment of the ribbon cutting can be enough. Ask the musician what length their rate includes and what happens if you want to extend it.

Which repertoire and which format should you choose?

Think about your business and your guests. The genre makes the difference, so review which options are available for your date:

  • Mariachi: the most traditional and festive option, with songs everyone recognizes.
  • Trio: ideal if the space is small or if you want guests to be able to chat with the music in the background.
  • Norteño: a good choice if your clientele or your community has that root.
  • Banda: for big openings, with lots of mingling and lots of volume.
  • Saxophone or violin: for clinics, offices, boutiques or businesses with a more sober style.

For the repertoire, combine celebration songs with one or two that relate to your story: the favorite song of whoever founded the business, the one that played at home when everything began, or one dedicated to the family that made it possible.

How much does it cost and how is it paid?

Each musician publishes their rate, and there is no exclusivity. The lowest price published today on Serenattia (October 2026, before the service fee) is from MX$1,500 in CDMX, MX$1,300 in Puebla, MX$2,500 in Monterrey, MX$2,400 in Queretaro, MX$2,200 in Toluca and MX$1,700 in Merida, among other markets. It is a starting point: the final price changes with the genre, the members and the length. To compare, check the music price index for Mexico.

On top of the musician's rate comes a 10% service fee, with a minimum of MX$200, which you pay separately. If you need an invoice for your new business, one can be issued and the 16% VAT goes on top. You pay 100% when booking and the money is held in escrow: it is released to the musician at the event, when you scan their QR code before they play. If the musician does not show up, the payment is not released. The Serenattia team confirms the availability of each booking.

Details not to forget on the day of the opening

  • Let the neighbors or the administrator of the plaza or building know that there will be live music.
  • Leave a clear, visible space for the musicians, preferably near the entrance.
  • If you will not be present, coordinate it with the Serenattia team when you book.
  • Coordinate with whoever takes the photos or video so they are ready at the moment of the ribbon cutting.
  • Define the songs and the sequence ahead of time, so the event flows.
  • If there are permits or venue rules about music or noise, confirm them before booking.

Once you have a date and a place, search for available musicians and book ahead. A grand opening only happens once, and it is worth making it sound the way you imagined.
