To hire a mariachi for a baptism, decide when they will come in (at the church exit, at the meal or at the toast), choose familiar, cheerful songs and book ahead. On Serenattia you see the rate before paying and the money is held in escrow until the musician arrives and their QR code is scanned.

At what point in the baptism is the mariachi a good fit?

A baptism usually has three moments: the religious ceremony, the meal or gathering and, sometimes, a toast or the cake cutting. The mariachi fits well in the second and the third. Inside the church, the music depends on each parish's rules: ask beforehand whether they allow live music and what kind.

The most frequent moments to play are: at the church exit, when the family comes out with the baby and the guests applaud; during the meal, as background music and with a few songs for everyone to sing; and at the toast, with a song dedicated to the baby and the parents. The mariachi does not need to play the whole event; one or two well-spread hours are usually enough.

Which songs to play at a baptism?

The repertoire should be familiar and warm, without excessive volume because there will be children and babies. Some ideas:

  • "Las mañanitas": there is almost always an occasion to sing them to the baby or the parents.
  • Songs for the parents: ballads of love and gratitude.
  • For the grandparents: classics they know and can sing.
  • For the godparents: a song of recognition, to thank them for their commitment.
  • For dancing: huapangos, sones and polkas for when the meal livens up.

If there are children, a well-known song (such as "El rey" or one of their favorites) can be a great moment. Also ask the musicians to watch the volume near the baby; a mariachi can play very well without overpowering the conversation.

Full mariachi or a small format?

It depends on the space and the number of guests. A full mariachi looks and sounds great in a hall or a spacious garden. In a house or a small hall, a trio or a reduced group may be more comfortable and cheaper. Check the options in the musicians list: you can compare rate, genre and description. There is no exclusivity, so you can decide calmly.

How much does it cost and how is it paid?

The rate is published by each musician and varies with the format, the duration and the distance. As of October 2026, the lowest price published on Serenattia is MX$1,300 in Puebla, MX$1,500 in CDMX, MX$1,700 in Mérida, MX$2,200 in Toluca, MX$2,400 in Querétaro, MX$2,500 in Monterrey and MX$4,000 in Guadalajara, before the service fee. These are not average prices; a large mariachi or several hours will cost more. Compare in the price index for music in Mexico.

A 10% service fee with a minimum of MX$200 is added. For example, with a rate of MX$2,400, the fee is MX$240 and the total MX$2,640. The musician receives 100% of their rate. If you need an invoice, the 16% VAT goes on top.

You pay 100% when booking and the money is held in escrow. It is released at the event, when you scan the musician's QR code before they play. The Serenattia team confirms the availability of each booking.

Booking step by step

  1. Confirm the date, time and place of the gathering.
  2. Choose genre and city in the musicians list.
  3. In the notes, state the exact moment they will come in and the songs you want.
  4. Pay 100% and wait for confirmation.
  5. On the day of the baptism, scan the musician's QR before they play.

Details so everything flows

Tell the musicians that there will be babies so they watch the volume. Define who greets them on arrival and where they will be placed. If the event is at a church or a hall, confirm that they allow live music and at what hours. Prepare ahead of time the list of dedicated songs, with the names of the parents, the godparents and the baby, so the musicians can mention them. And if you want a keepsake, ask a relative to record a short video of the song dedicated to the baby: it is one of those clips you watch years later.

How to coordinate the group with the other vendors

A baptism usually has a photographer, a venue, food and sometimes entertainment. So the mariachi does not clash with the rest, share a simple order of events: guests' arrival time, mealtime, toast time and the moment of the dedicated song. Ask the musicians to arrive a few minutes early to settle in and test the sound without bothering the guests.

If there is a photographer or videographer, tell them when the dedicated song will be so they have the camera ready. It is also wise to define a break: if the group plays two hours, it can take a couple of short pauses during the meal without it feeling like a void. And, when it is over, have someone on hand to thank the musicians and walk them to the exit.

Frequently asked questions

Can they play inside the church?

It depends on each parish. Check its rules ahead of time and share the answer with the musician when booking.

If something changes, let the Serenattia team know as soon as possible so it can be adjusted with the musician.
