Hiring a mariachi in the State of Mexico costs between MX$1,500 and MX$3,000 per hour for a 4-member group, and between MX$4,000 and MX$5,500 for one of 6 to 8, according to the price documented for Ecatepec in the Serenattia Live Music Price Index. It is one of the few areas in the country with its own verified local price, not just a national range, because there are enough public figures from the press and directories for that specific city.

But "State of Mexico" is not a single market: it is priced differently depending on how close it is to the center of Mexico City, and the state has its own calendar that does not depend only on weddings.

Why Ecatepec is priced differently from Toluca or Naucalpan

The Index documents that Ecatepec is priced 30% to 40% below central Mexico City for the same mariachi format. That does not mean the whole State of Mexico is equally inexpensive: areas bordering the west side of the capital, such as Naucalpan or Interlomas, tend to be closer to central CDMX prices than to Ecatepec's, because they compete for the same musicians who work in the city. Toluca, being the state capital and farther from CDMX, has its own musician market, with growing supply but still without a documented public price as solid as Ecatepec's. In practice, this means a client in Ecatepec can compare their quote against a verifiable public figure, while one in Toluca or a smaller municipality depends more on getting quotes directly from several groups, without a published price anchor to fall back on.

The Alfeñique and the November season in Toluca

Every year, in late October and early November, the Feria del Alfeñique in Toluca (dedicated to the sugar figures of Día de Muertos) fills the city center with stalls and cultural activities, and it coincides with the peak season of year-end events that kicks off in the Valley of Mexico. The mariachi and versatile groups with the best calendars in Toluca commit quickly to company posadas (holiday parties) and November and December weddings, so booking in October, before that crunch starts, is what gives you the most groups to choose from.

Big weddings on the west side of the Valley of Mexico

The highest-ticket format for weddings on the west side of the State of Mexico, toward Interlomas or Naucalpan, is the versatile group (grupo versátil): a national range of MX$10,000 to MX$50,000 per event, with big weddings in the metropolitan area reaching up to MX$60,000, according to the same Serenattia Index. That range normally includes audio, lighting, emceeing and a DJ for breaks between the live group's sets, so before comparing two quotes, confirm that both include the same elements, because a lower price sometimes covers only the group, without the rest of the setup. For a wedding of 150 guests or more, that difference in what is included can amount to several thousand pesos between two quotes that look the same at first glance.

What to ask depending on where in the State of Mexico your event is

If your event is in a Valley of Mexico municipality close to CDMX, ask whether the group charges the same price as in the capital or has a different rate by area. If it is in Toluca or toward the west of the state (toward the Nevado de Toluca), ask about the travel cost, because many Mexico City-based groups charge extra to leave the immediate metropolitan area. And if it is a corporate event in the Toluca-Lerma industrial zone, confirm how far in advance to book in November, because of the overlap with the Alfeñique and the start of posada season. In any of the three cases, asking for the quote in writing, with the total price and exactly what it includes, avoids the most common surprise: the initial verbal price not including travel or overtime hours.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a mariachi cost in Ecatepec, State of Mexico?

Between MX$1,500 and MX$3,000 per hour for a 4-member group, and MX$4,000 to MX$5,500 for one of 6 to 8. It is a local price documented in the Serenattia Index, between 30% and 40% below central Mexico City.

Is the price the same across the whole State of Mexico?

No. Ecatepec has a documented local price, lower than central CDMX. Areas such as Naucalpan or Interlomas, because of their proximity to the capital, tend to be quoted closer to CDMX. Toluca and the rest of the state do not yet have a documented local price of their own, so the national range is used.

Why is November peak season for music in Toluca?

Because the Feria del Alfeñique coincides with the start of the season of company posadas and year-end weddings. The groups with the best calendars commit quickly, so booking in October gives you more options.

Yes, the supply in Toluca already has a presence on the platform and keeps growing. If you search and do not find enough profiles for your municipality or date, contact us on WhatsApp and we will help you find verified local options.
