A congratulations serenade (serenata) is a musical gift to celebrate an achievement: a graduation, a promotion, a passed exam, a new business or good family news. You book it by choosing the city, format and date, and you pay when you book. The trick is to pick songs that speak to the achievement and let the recipient know with just the right amount of notice.
For which achievements does a serenade work best?
Congratulations by message get lost among other notifications. A serenade, on the other hand, stops the moment and turns it into an event. It works especially well for:
- Graduations: from middle school, high school, college or graduate school.
- Promotions and new jobs: especially if the achievement took years of effort.
- New businesses: an opening with music marks the start.
- Family news: a pregnancy, an engagement, a new home or recovery from an illness.
- Personal goals: finishing a marathon, passing a hard exam or quitting a habit.
Choose a moment when the person is available and accompanied: the celebration is enjoyed more if there are people around.
Which songs and format should you choose?
Think about the tone of the achievement. For a graduation or a promotion, the mariachi brings solemnity and joy at once; a trio works if the space is small. If the person prefers norteño music, banda or saxophone, tell the musician: a serenade should feel like them.
Songs of celebration and pride (cheerful rancheras, congratulation classics or pieces that have meaning for the family) tend to work better than purely romantic ones. You can ask for "Las mañanitas" at the start and leave the rest to the musician's choice, or put together a short list of three or four meaningful songs.
Also ask the musician to mention the name and the achievement before playing: that small speech makes the serenade personal, not generic.
How do you organize it step by step?
- Confirm the date of the achievement or celebration.
- Choose a place: home, garden, office, school or hall.
- Notify those who should be present (family, team, friends).
- Book the format in good time; the team confirms availability.
- Prepare a complementary touch: a cake, a framed diploma or a banner.
- Receive the musician and scan their QR code before they play.
If the celebration is at an institution (school, company), ask for permission in advance. A small formality avoids unpleasant surprises.
If the achievement belongs to several people (for example, a team that won a project or several classmates who graduated together), consider a single serenade for everyone: the cost is shared and the emotion multiplies. Ask the musician to mention each name. And if the person celebrating is shy, tell the guests so they do not put them on the spot: the idea is for them to feel proud, not exposed. A group photo with the musicians at the end becomes a keepsake that lasts for years.
How much does it cost and what is paid separately?
The price changes with the city, the format and the date. As a reference, the lowest prices published today by musicians on Serenattia (October 2026) are: Mexico City from MX$1,500; Puebla from MX$1,300; Guadalajara from MX$4,000; Querétaro from MX$2,400; Monterrey from MX$2,500; Toluca from MX$2,200; Cuernavaca from MX$3,600; Mérida from MX$1,700; Cancún from MX$1,800; Playa del Carmen from MX$2,000 (MXN, before the service fee).
On top of the rate you pay a 10% service fee, with a minimum of MX$200, and the musician receives 100% of what they published. The music price index for Mexico helps you tell whether a rate is reasonable.
How do you book and how is your payment protected?
Booking here is different from sending a deposit by message. You pay 100% when you book and that money is held in escrow; it is released to the musician at the event, when you scan their QR code before they play. If they do not show up, it is not released. And the Serenattia team checks the availability of each booking before confirming it to you.
The full process, summarized:
- Before: review profiles, choose a format and book in good time. You pay everything up front.
- While you wait: the team confirms availability and you coordinate address and contact.
- On the day: receive the musician, scan their QR code and enjoy. That scan is what releases the payment.
If something changes in your schedule, let us know as soon as possible so we can look at options with the team.
Before booking, have on hand: the person's name, the full address with landmarks, the date and time you prefer, the musical format you imagine and two or three songs you want to request. With that information the booking takes a few minutes and the musician arrives better prepared.
