The best song to dedicate is the one that has meaning for the person. Depending on the occasion, you can choose mañanitas for birthdays, boleros for anniversaries, songs of gratitude for mom or dad, sincere ballads for asking forgiveness and classics for weddings. Share them with the musician when you book.

How do you choose a song that really means something?

The most common mistake is choosing a song just because it is famous. The best serenata (serenade) is not the one that sounds best known, but the one that sounds like the person. Before deciding, ask yourself three questions:

  1. What song do they sing when they are happy?
  2. What song reminds us of an important moment?
  3. Which lyrics say what I want to tell them?

If you find a song that answers any of them, you already have half the work done.

Songs by occasion

Birthdays

Las Mañanitas are the classic. After that, a cheerful song to sing as a group and a personal favorite. If the person is older, a bolero from their youth usually moves them.

Couple's or wedding anniversary

The first-dance song, the first-date song or a classic bolero. To close, something both of you can sing together.

Mother's Day

Las Mañanitas, a song dedicated to mothers and mom's personal favorite. If she is from another region, a song from her homeland.

Father's Day

A song dedicated to dads, something from their favorite genre (norteño, mariachi, bolero) and one of gratitude.

Asking for forgiveness

A sincere song with no reproaches, preferably from a period you share. Avoid lyrics that sound like a justification. The melody should open the conversation, not close it.

Weddings and proposals

A romantic classic, the couple's song or an instrumental melody with violin or quartet. Agree with the musician on the exact moment of the last note.

Farewells and welcomes

A song of affection that says "we are going to miss you" or "so good that you are back". The emotion is what matters.

Graduations and achievements

A song of celebration and pride that the whole family can sing.

How to request the songs from the musician

  • Share a list of two to five songs, in order of priority.
  • State the occasion and the person's name.
  • Ask whether they can play them and in what style.
  • Ask for their recommendation: an experienced musician knows what works on each occasion.
  • Confirm in writing in the booking.

How much it costs and how to book

Each musician sets their rate according to their format and what it includes. On Serenattia prices are visible and there is no exclusivity. The lowest published today by musicians (October 2026, MXN, before the service fee) are: CDMX from MX$1,500, Puebla from MX$1,300, Merida from MX$1,700, Cancun from MX$1,800, Playa del Carmen from MX$2,000, Toluca from MX$2,200, Queretaro from MX$2,400, Monterrey from MX$2,500, Cuernavaca from MX$3,600 and Guadalajara from MX$4,000. Check the price index to compare.

Search for musicians in the listing. You pay 100% when booking and the money is held in escrow. It is released to the musician at the event, when you scan their QR code before they play. If they do not show up, the payment is not released. A 10% service fee is added with a minimum of MX$200, and the musician receives 100% of their rate. If you need an invoice, the 16% VAT goes on top. The Serenattia team confirms the availability of each booking.

What to do if you cannot find the perfect song

If nothing comes to mind, start with the simplest thing: ask someone close which song they associate with that person, look at their playlist or think about the last place you saw them singing without realizing it. Often the right song is in an everyday memory, not on a list of hits. And if you are still unsure, ask the musician for their recommendation: with experience, they know which songs work best depending on the occasion and the setting.

Quick checklist before booking (which songs to dedicate by occasion)

  • Define the date, time and complete address, with landmarks to arrive without detours.
  • Decide who will receive the musician and who will record the moment.
  • Choose two or three songs with meaning and confirm them with the musician.
  • Ask what the published rate includes and have it put in writing in the booking.
  • If there are neighbors nearby or a security booth, let them know ahead of time.
  • On the day of the event, scan the musician's QR code before they play to release the payment.

With this list sorted out, all that is left is to enjoy the moment and let the music do the rest.

Common mistakes worth avoiding (which songs to dedicate by occasion)

The first is leaving it for the last minute: the sooner you book, the more options you will have and the less rush there will be on the day of the event. The second is not asking what the rate includes, because two similar prices can cover very different things. The third is not thinking about the venue: the space, the noise and the neighbors completely change the experience. And the fourth is forgetting the QR: scanning it before the musician plays is the step that releases the payment and confirms that everything went as agreed.

If you have doubts, go back to the list of musicians and compare calmly before deciding.
