A wedding at a hacienda in Yucatán is normally put together with three blocks of music, and a realistic budget starts at MX$12,000: in Yucatán a full-hour mariachi costs MX$3,000 to MX$3,500 and a versatile group for the party runs from MX$10,000 to MX$50,000 depending on size and hours.
At serenattia we help with weddings at haciendas in the area, from those twenty minutes from Paseo de Montejo to those on the road to Izamal, Umán or the way to Valladolid. Music at a hacienda is not priced the same as in a hall in the north of the city, and that difference is exactly what tends to throw the budget off. Here are the real numbers and the logistics almost nobody explains before you sign.
What blocks of music does a hacienda wedding have?
A hacienda wedding is almost always divided into four distinct musical moments. The first is the ceremony, civil or religious, usually held in the garden, under the arches or in the chapel, and it calls for soft, acoustic music. The second is the welcome cocktail, while guests move from the parking area to the tables: Yucatecan trova, a sax or a trio work well there. The third is the couple's entrance to the reception, a short moment with a lot of impact, where the mariachi comes in. And the fourth is the party, which takes most of the budget and where the versatile group, the banda and the DJ compete.
Many couples try to cover all four moments with a single vendor and end up paying for dead hours. It is cheaper to hire small formats for the short blocks and save the bulk of the money for the party. If you want the full picture of how these formats are combined on the peninsula, see our guide to live music for weddings in Mérida and Yucatán.
How much does each music format cost in Yucatán?
These are the prices we see in real quotes from the Mérida area during 2026. They work as a negotiating floor: if you are quoted far above these without an explanation, ask what is included.
| Format | Price in Yucatán (MXN) | Ideal block |
|---|---|---|
| Yucatecan trova | from MX$500 | Welcome cocktail, guest reception |
| Saxophonist | MX$1,000 to MX$5,500 per event | Ceremony, cocktail, couple's entrance |
| Romantic trio | MX$2,500 to MX$3,500 per hour | Cocktail and dinner |
| Mariachi by songs | MX$1,500 (4 songs), MX$1,800 (6), MX$2,500 (7), MX$2,600 (11) | Entrance, toast or short tornaboda (day-after party) |
| Mariachi, full hour | MX$3,000 to MX$3,500 | Full entrance and toast block |
| DJ | from MX$3,000 | Party and closing |
| Banda or norteño group | MX$6,000 to MX$15,000 per event | Party with dancing |
| Versatile group | MX$10,000 to MX$50,000 | Full party with entertainment |
It is worth noting something that works in your favor: nationally a mariachi charges between MX$2,000 and MX$4,500 per hour, and Mérida sits in the low band of that range. Getting married in Yucatán costs you less in music than doing it in the center of the country. If you want to compare against national averages by format, the breakdown is in prices and formats of wedding music in 2026.
The periférico: the line that changes your quote
This is the most important local rule and the one that causes the most surprises. Almost all Mérida musicians quote their list prices for events inside the periférico (the ring road). As soon as the hacienda is on the other side, whether toward Umán, Kanasín, Cholul or farther, travel is quoted separately. It is not a rip-off: it means several members, instruments, equipment and a long hour of driving each way, often in the small hours.
When you ask for a quote, state the name of the municipality and the approximate kilometers from downtown in your first message. That way the price you get is already complete and you do not receive an adjustment three days before the wedding. If the hacienda is more than an hour away, also ask whether the group needs lodging, because at weddings that end at three in the morning some larger formats ask for it.
What a hacienda asks for that a hall does not
The first is electricity. Many haciendas in the area run on a generator or on old wiring, and a versatile group with big speakers needs stable power. Ask the hacienda how many watts it can give you and pass that figure to the musician before you close.
The second is the weather. In Yucatán, humidity and heat directly affect string and wind instruments, and a ceremony at four in the afternoon under the sun is uncomfortable for everyone. That is why most hacienda ceremonies are scheduled at sunset.
The third is the ground. Sascab paths (crushed white limestone), gravel and grass make it hard to move a stage or heavy equipment. If your ceremony spot is far from the parking area, let them know: it can mean extra setup time.
Three real music budgets for a hacienda wedding
This is what a budget built by blocks looks like, depending on how much you want to invest.
| Budget | How it is built | Approximate total |
|---|---|---|
| Lean | Trova at the cocktail plus a DJ for the party | MX$3,500 to MX$6,000 |
| Balanced | Sax at the ceremony, 6-song mariachi at the entrance and a DJ all night | MX$8,000 to MX$14,000 |
| Full | Strings or sax at the ceremony, trova at the cocktail, full-hour mariachi and a versatile group | MX$20,000 to MX$60,000 |
Add travel to those totals if the hacienda is outside the periférico. If you want the line-by-line breakdown, including cake, protocol and overtime, we put it together in full in the wedding music budget in Mérida.
When do you need to book the music?
Yucatán haciendas are booked nine to twelve months ahead, and wedding musicians follow that same calendar. Saturdays from November to March, the wedding season because of the weather, fill up first. If your date falls in that block, book music at least six months ahead. For off-season dates, three months is usually enough.
A local detail: if your wedding falls near September 15, the mariachi goes up between 30% and 100% that week. If you can move the date by a week, you save quite a bit. While you decide on a date, it helps to know the guide to hiring wedding music without blind deposits.
And if you want something very Yucatecan?
Trova is the signature sound of the peninsula and works wonderfully at the cocktail, because it lets people chat while it plays. From MX$500 it is also the format with the best balance of price and local personality, especially if you have guests from out of state. We tell you which songs work well and when to place them in Yucatecan trova at your wedding.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the complete music for a hacienda wedding in Yucatán cost?
A balanced setup with a sax at the ceremony, a 6-song mariachi at the entrance and a DJ for the party comes to between MX$8,000 and MX$14,000. A wedding with accompanied ceremony, trova at the cocktail, a full-hour mariachi and a versatile group runs from MX$20,000 to MX$60,000, plus travel if the hacienda is outside the periférico.
Do they charge extra to play at a hacienda outside Mérida?
Yes. The list prices of most Mérida musicians apply inside the periférico. If the hacienda is toward Umán, Kanasín, Izamal or Valladolid, travel is quoted separately according to distance, number of members and departure time. Mention the municipality in your first message so the quote arrives complete.
Is a mariachi by songs or by the hour better for a hacienda wedding?
If the mariachi is only going to cover the couple's entrance and the toast, the by-songs package goes further: 6 songs cost MX$1,800 and 7 songs MX$2,500. The full hour, MX$3,000 to MX$3,500, makes sense when you want them to also accompany dinner or a short tornaboda.
Which format works best for an outdoor ceremony at a hacienda?
Light acoustic formats, such as a solo sax or strings, because they do not depend on much electricity and sound good in an open garden. Schedule the ceremony at sunset: Yucatán's heat and humidity affect the instruments and the guests if it is held in the middle of the afternoon.
