Sunday Serenade: How to Book It Without Surprises

A Sunday serenade is possible, but it pays to book ahead and wait for the team's confirmation. Here is how to do it right.

You can request a serenata (serenade) for a Sunday, but availability depends on each musician, and weekends fill up fast. Book ahead, choose a group in your city and wait for the confirmation from the Serenattia team. The payment is held in escrow until you scan the musician's QR code at the event.

Why is Sunday a good day for a serenade?

Sunday has something the other days do not: the family is usually together, there is a shared meal and the atmosphere is relaxed. That makes it ideal for birthdays, Mother's Day (Día de las Madres), family anniversaries, baptisms, farewell lunches or simply an afternoon of getting together. Many people have the day off, and that lets more guests be present and the surprise be enjoyed calmly.

In addition, Sunday is usually a day of low rush. There is no work immediately the next day (for some), and people are more willing to stay and listen. If you want a serenade to feel like a special moment, a Sunday afternoon can be an excellent choice.

What should you keep in mind for a Sunday?

  • Book ahead: the weekend is high season for musicians.
  • Choose the time carefully: an afternoon or a lunch usually works better than the evening, when many people are getting ready for Monday.
  • Tell the neighbors: if the serenade is in a residential development or building, advance notice avoids annoyance.
  • Confirm availability: the Serenattia team verifies each booking before confirming it.
  • Have a backup plan: if your first group is not free, have a second option of format or time.

If you are looking for a heavily requested date (such as the second Sunday of May, which falls near Mother's Day, or long weekends), book even further ahead. Demand goes up and options shrink.

Sunday at home or at a restaurant

At home you have more freedom: you choose the time, the volume and the space. At a restaurant, before booking the serenade, ask whether they allow live music and whether they have any special schedule or rule on Sundays. Share that information with the musician when booking. And if the event is in a venue or garden, confirm there is a suitable space for the musicians and good ventilation if it is summer.

Which genre and format fit?

For a family lunch, a mariachi with well-known songs is a classic. For a more intimate atmosphere, a trio with boleros. For a get-together with friends, a norteño or a banda. If the space is small, a reduced format avoids overcrowding. Check the list of musicians and compare genres, rates and descriptions. There is no exclusivity: you can decide calmly.

How much does a Sunday serenade cost?

Each musician publishes their rate. As of October 2026, the lowest price published on Serenattia, before the service fee, is: Puebla MX$1,300; Mexico City MX$1,500; Mérida MX$1,700; Cancún MX$1,800; Playa del Carmen MX$2,000; Toluca MX$2,200; Querétaro MX$2,400; Monterrey MX$2,500; Cuernavaca MX$3,600; Guadalajara MX$4,000. These are entry rates and cannot be extrapolated to a specific day: confirm each musician's price for the date you need. Check the index of music prices in Mexico to compare.

A 10% service fee is added to the rate, with a minimum of MX$200. Example: with a rate of MX$2,500, the fee is MX$250 and the total is MX$2,750. The musician receives 100% of their rate. If you need an invoice, the 16% VAT goes on top.

You pay 100% when booking and the money is held in escrow. It is released when, at the event, you scan the musician's QR before they play. If they do not arrive, the payment is not released.

How to book for Sunday step by step

  1. Define the date, time and address of the event.
  2. Go to the list of musicians and filter by city and genre.
  3. Compare rates and repertoires; choose one or two groups.
  4. Book and write in the notes the reason, the honoree's name and the songs.
  5. Pay 100% and wait for the team's confirmation.
  6. On the Sunday of the event, scan the musician's QR before they play.

What to do if your date is taken

If the group you want is not available on Sunday, you have several options: choose another group of the same genre, move the serenade to Saturday or to Friday night, or change the time. A serenade on the eve, Saturday night, has a special charm: the surprise starts the day before and the celebration continues on Sunday. Talk to the team to find the best alternative.

Organize the day's logistics

Put in writing the arrival time, the exact place of the serenade and the name of a contact person. Make sure there is room to park or unload instruments. If there will be food, define whether the musicians will play before, during or after. And if you want them to stay a while longer, make it known from the booking: it is better to agree on it beforehand than to improvise in the moment.
