A serenata (serenade) to propose marriage is a proposal with live music: a mariachi, trio, violin or other group plays songs that mean something to the couple and, at the end, the question comes. It is booked on Serenattia with a visible price and payment at booking, which stays in escrow until the event.

Why does a serenade make a proposal special?

A proposal is a moment that happens only once, and music gives it weight. A well-chosen song sets the mood, lowers the nerves and turns the question into a scene that both of you will remember. In addition, the serenade lets family or friends take part without intruding: they can be nearby, film or sing the chorus.

There is also a practical reason: music fills the silences. Many people get nervous at the moment of speaking, and a serenade gives a frame, a rhythm and an atmosphere. When the last song ends, what follows comes out naturally. You do not need a long speech, just a few sincere words.

The serenade also tells a story. You can choose a song from when you met, another that you heard on a trip and a third that speaks of what comes next. That way the proposal is not just the question but the journey of both of you.

Which music should you choose for the proposal?

Think about the person who is going to say yes. These are the options:

  • Romantic trio: intimate and elegant, ideal for a dinner, a terrace or a lookout.
  • Mariachi: festive and emotional, perfect if the family is waiting nearby.
  • Violin or saxophone: sophisticated, very beautiful for proposals at sunset or at a restaurant that allows it.
  • Norteño or banda: for someone who lives that music and wants a party atmosphere after the question.
  • Marimba: warm and traditional, much loved in several regions.

A formula that works: three songs. The first announces the surprise, the second is your song and the third is the close right before the question. Talk to the musician before the event to set the order and the exact moment when they should lower the volume or stop.

How do you book on Serenattia?

Sending a serenade should be as easy as sending flowers or a cake. These are the steps:

  1. Go to the list of musicians and filter by your city and the genre you want.
  2. Compare profiles. The price is visible and there is no exclusivity.
  3. Choose the date, time and address.
  4. Pay 100% when booking. The money stays in escrow.
  5. The Serenattia team confirms the availability of your booking.
  6. On the day of the event, before the musician plays, you scan their QR code. That releases the payment.

If the musician does not arrive, the payment is not released. That is the part that lets you plan with peace of mind.

How much does a serenade cost?

It depends on the city, the type of group, the duration and the repertoire. The lowest price published today by musicians on Serenattia (October 2026), before the service fee, is:

CityFrom (MXN)
PueblaMX$1,300
CDMXMX$1,500
MéridaMX$1,700
CancúnMX$1,800
Playa del CarmenMX$2,000
TolucaMX$2,200
QuerétaroMX$2,400
MonterreyMX$2,500
CuernavacaMX$3,600
GuadalajaraMX$4,000

These are the entry prices by city; each musician sets their rate on their profile. To compare, check the index of music prices in Mexico. A 10% service fee is added to the rate, with a minimum of MX$200, and the musician receives 100% of their rate. If you need an invoice, the 16% VAT goes on top.

How do you coordinate the moment and the accomplices?

The proposal is a small production and the details matter. Before booking, define these points:

  • Place: one with meaning and with room for the musicians. Confirm that live music is allowed.
  • Accomplice: a person who takes your partner to the place without them suspecting.
  • Signal: how the musicians will know when to start. It can be a call, a message or a gesture.
  • Ring and words: have them ready, and if you want, write what you are going to say on a card.
  • Camera: ask someone to film or take photos from a discreet angle.
  • QR:If you are not going to be present, coordinate it with the Serenattia team when booking.

Also think about a plan B in case it rains or there are many people. A covered place or a second time slot can save the day. And remember that the surprise does not have to be huge to be memorable: a small group in an intimate place can move more than a spectacle.

Frequently asked questions

How many songs should I ask for in a proposal?

Three are usually enough: one for the opening, a song of yours and a close. Confirm with the musician how many songs their rate includes.

Which group is best for proposing marriage?

It depends on the couple. A trio or a violin is more intimate; a mariachi is more festive. Choose according to the place and the personality of whoever receives the proposal.

How is the serenade paid for?

You pay 100% when booking and the money stays in escrow. It is released to the musician at the event, when you scan their QR code before they play.

What happens if the musicians do not arrive?

The payment is not released, because it is only released when you scan the musician's QR. In addition, the Serenattia team confirms the availability of each booking.

Is there a service fee and can it be invoiced?

Yes. The fee is 10% on the rate, with a minimum of MX$200, and the musician receives 100% of their rate. It can be invoiced and the 16% VAT goes on top.
