To organize a serenata (serenade) for your grandparents, choose songs from their era, watch the volume and the timing, gather the family and book in advance. A small or medium format usually works better than a very noisy one. It is booked with a visible price and escrow payment.

Why is a serenade a great gift for grandparents?

Grandparents rarely ask for gifts, but they almost always treasure moments. A serenade gives them back something they love: the music of their youth, the boleros they danced to, the songs they sang with their friends. Seeing them smile, sing softly and get emotional is one of those scenes the whole family remembers.

It is also a perfect excuse to bring several generations together. Grandchildren, children and great-grandchildren in the same room, singing together, is a gift for everyone, not just for them.

Which songs to choose for them

  • Classic boleros: they are usually their favorites.
  • Songs from their hometown or region: the ones they sang when they were young.
  • Las Mañanitas: if it is a birthday.
  • Their wedding song: if they remember it and it is possible to find it.
  • Religious or family songs: according to their traditions.

Ask your parents, aunts and uncles or other relatives which songs they liked when they were young. That information is very valuable and will make the serenade feel truly personal.

Looking after volume, timing and comfort

Moderate volume

A very loud mariachi can be too much for older people. A trio, a guitarist with a voice or a smaller group lets every word be heard without overwhelming. If you prefer a mariachi, ask them to adjust the volume.

A not-too-long performance

Grandparents like to enjoy every song, but they can tire. A performance of reasonable length, with a comfortable place to sit, is ideal.

A comfortable and safe place

Choose a space with seating, good lighting and no steps or obstacles. Try to make sure it is not too cold or too hot and that they can see the group up close.

The right time

A quiet afternoon or a family meal usually works better than a late hour.

Prices and protected payment

Each musician sets their rate according to their format and what it includes. On Serenattia prices are visible and there is no exclusivity. The lowest currently published by musicians (October 2026, MXN, before the service fee) are: Mexico City from MX$1,500, Puebla from MX$1,300, Mérida from MX$1,700, Cancún from MX$1,800, Playa del Carmen from MX$2,000, Toluca from MX$2,200, Querétaro from MX$2,400, Monterrey from MX$2,500, Cuernavaca from MX$3,600 and Guadalajara from MX$4,000. If several grandchildren and aunts and uncles chip in, the gift is very affordable. See the price index to compare.

You pay 100% when booking and the money is held in escrow. It is released to the musician at the event, when you scan their QR code before they play. If they do not arrive, the payment is not released. A service fee of 10% with a minimum of MX$200 is added, and the musician receives 100% of their rate. If you need an invoice, the 16% VAT goes on top. The Serenattia team confirms the availability of each booking. Find musicians in the listing.

How to make it memorable (serenade for grandparents)

Beyond the group or the price, what makes a serenade memorable is the intention. Think of a short phrase you want to say at the end, a song that means something to you and a moment of silence before the first note. Ask someone to record on video, even with a phone, and keep the memory to watch later. A small detail, such as a handwritten note or a long hug, accompanies the music and turns it into a complete scene. Planning with time and affection almost always shows.

Quick checklist before booking (serenade for grandparents)

  • Define the date, time and full address, with landmarks so they arrive with no detours.
  • Decide who will receive the musician and who will record the moment.
  • Choose two or three songs with meaning and confirm them with the musician.
  • Ask what the published rate includes and have it put in writing in the booking.
  • If there are neighbors nearby or a security gatehouse, let them know in advance.
  • On the day of the event, scan the musician's QR before they play to release the payment.

With this list settled, the only thing left is to enjoy the moment and let the music do the rest.

Common mistakes worth avoiding (serenade for grandparents)

The first is leaving it to the last moment: the sooner you book, the more options you will have and the less rush there will be on the day of the event. The second is not asking what the rate includes, because two similar prices can cover very different things. The third is not thinking about the place: the space, the noise and the neighbors completely change the experience. And the fourth is forgetting the QR: scanning it before the musician plays is the step that releases the payment and confirms that everything went as agreed.

If you have doubts, go back to the list of musicians and compare calmly before deciding.
