A romantic trio in Monterrey can be hired from MX$1,000 and goes up to MX$3,000 per serenata (serenade). The most requested packages in the city run MX$1,300 to MX$1,900, and in San Pedro Garza García quotes start at MX$1,500. These are local figures measured in the market, not national averages.

That fact changes the conversation, because the national range for a romantic trio is MX$2,300 to MX$3,500 per serenade of about seven songs. Monterrey is clearly hired below that, and below I explain why and what to watch so the low price does not end up costing more.

Notice the contrast between the first two rows and the fourth. A Monterrey package of MX$1,300 to MX$1,900 is below the national floor of MX$2,300. That does not mean the Monterrey trio is worth less: it means Monterrey has a density of musicians that pushes prices down across all formats, including norteño, which is quoted here at MX$2,000 to MX$3,000 per hour against a national range that reaches MX$3,500. If your question is between bolero and ranchero bolero, the general picture is in the guide to how much a bolero trio costs in 2026.

What does that price include and what is charged separately?

A standard package includes three musicians, requinto and two guitars, vocals, an agreed number of songs (five to seven is normal) and travel within the urban area that each group defines as its coverage area. For a serenade it also almost always includes the flexibility to wait fifteen or twenty minutes if the person does not come out right away.

Charged separately: additional songs, which are negotiated per piece and which nationally run MX$225 to MX$262; travel when the address falls outside the area they cover, and here comes the hard part of this city, which I explain in the next section; sound equipment if you want it heard in a big patio or a hall, because the trio is acoustic; and early-morning hours, which some groups charge extra for after one o'clock.

A serenade in a metropolis of nine municipalities

This is the local anchor that decides your real price. Monterrey is not a city, it is a metropolitan area with San Pedro Garza García, San Nicolás de los Garza, Guadalupe, Apodaca, Escobedo, Santa Catarina, Juárez, García and Santiago around it. Going from one end to the other is a good forty minutes, and a serenade happens at ten or eleven at night, when there is no more public transportation and the musicians head home in the early morning in their own vehicle. That is why travel is not a hidden charge, it is the real cost of the format in this market.

The contrast by area is already in the numbers. While the general serenade range in Monterrey starts at MX$1,000, in San Pedro Garza García it starts at MX$1,500. It is not just purchasing power: in the south area many residential developments have a guard booth with access control, and getting three musicians with instruments in at eleven at night requires you to register them beforehand or have someone come out to receive them. That process takes time and sometimes kills the element of surprise. If your serenade is in San Pedro, Valle Oriente or any gated community, notify the booth with names and license plates, or ask the trio to wait for you at the entrance and walk them in.

There is a third very Monterrey factor: the night weather. In summer, from June to September, eleven at night in Monterrey is still hot and the serenade works well. But from December to February cold fronts bring nights near freezing with wind, and a long outdoor serenade becomes uncomfortable for everyone, including the musicians, who cannot play guitar with numb hands. In winter it pays to go down from seven songs to four or five and choose a sheltered spot. To see which groups are active by area, check the directory of musicians in Monterrey.

When should you book a trio in Monterrey?

The Monterrey serenade calendar has four dates where there is no slack. May 10 is the number one peak of the year and can triple the base rate. February 14 is a short but very concentrated peak at night, so what is scarce are the good time slots, between nine and eleven. December 12 brings the Guadalupe mañanitas from the early morning, and in the north of the country it is a strong tradition. And on September 15 and 16 regional formats rise 30% to 100%, with the Monterrey mariachi moving to a range of MX$4,000 to MX$8,000 per hour.

For those four dates, book three or four weeks ahead and confirm the exact time, not a range. For a normal night, one week is enough, and from January to March there is wide availability. If your question is between a trio and another regional format, the local comparison is in the piece on mariachi and norteño group prices in Monterrey.

How to choose without overpaying?

First, quote by number of songs and not by time. In Monterrey the package scheme is the standard and gives you a closed price. If you are quoted by the hour for a serenade, you are probably paying too much for time you will not use.

Second, settle travel in the first message, with the full address. It is the point where the agreed price falls apart in this city, and it always happens on the sidewalk, when you can no longer negotiate. Send street, number, neighborhood and municipality, not just the neighborhood.

Third, do not chase the lowest price. The difference between a MX$1,000 package and one at MX$1,600 is usually the requinto: a trio with a good requinto player sounds like a trio, one without it sounds like three people singing. Ask for audio or video of the group itself, not of the genre.

Fourth, define three sure songs and leave the rest open. Monterrey trios have a broad repertoire of bolero and ranchero bolero, and if you give them room they usually read the moment better than a rigid list. And fifth, confirm who opens the door or the booth: it is the most common logistics mistake in the market. On Serenattia the client pays a 10% service commission with a minimum of MX$200, visible before booking.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a serenade with a trio cost in Monterrey?

The documented local range is MX$1,000 to MX$3,000, with the most requested packages between MX$1,300 and MX$1,900. In San Pedro Garza García quotes start at MX$1,500. For reference, the national range for a romantic trio is MX$2,300 to MX$3,500 per serenade of about seven songs.

Why does a serenade cost more in San Pedro?

For two reasons. The area has a higher rate starting point, from MX$1,500, and in addition many residential developments have a guard booth with access control, which requires registering the musicians or going out to receive them. That extra night time is reflected in the price.

How many songs does a serenade package include?

Five to seven songs is normal. Additional ones are charged per piece, with a national reference of MX$225 to MX$262 each. If you are going to ask for more than seven, it pays to negotiate the full package from the start instead of adding songs along the way.

Can you have a serenade in winter in Monterrey?

Yes, but with adjustments. From December to February cold fronts from the north bring nights near freezing with wind. On those dates it pays to go down from seven songs to four or five and choose a sheltered spot, because numb hands directly affect the guitar and the requinto.

How far in advance do I book a trio in Monterrey?

For May 10, February 14, December 12 and September 15, three to four weeks ahead with the exact time settled. For a normal night, one week is enough, and from January to March there is wide availability.
