The most requested serenades are for the classic occasions: birthdays (with Las Mañanitas), anniversaries, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, apologies, graduations and surprise weddings. Each one calls for a different repertoire and type of group, and on Serenattia you can book it online with a visible price.
A serenade (serenata) is one of those gifts that does not fit in a box or wilt in three days. It is heard, recorded, retold for years. But it is also a gift that many people do not dare to ask for because it seems complicated: who do I call? how much does it cost? what if they do not show up? The good news is that today it can be as simple as choosing a bouquet: you pick the occasion, the type of group, see the price and book. Here we review the classic occasions and what works best for each.
For which occasions is a serenade requested most?
Without making up figures, what any musician will confirm is that the occasions repeat year after year. These are the usual ones:
- Birthdays: the queen of serenades. Las Mañanitas, a couple of favorite songs and one last song to close.
- Anniversary: for a couple or a wedding. Boleros, romantic ballads and the song that unites you.
- Mother's Day and May 10: mariachi or trio with ranchero and melodic repertoire.
- Valentine's Day and February 14:
- Apologizing: a serenade says what words sometimes cannot.
- Graduation: a gesture that surprises at the family celebration.
- Surprise wedding or marriage proposal: the moment for a group that knows how to read the room.
Which type of group goes best with each occasion?
These are the options: each one conveys something different. If you think of a serenade as a bouquet, these are your options:
| Type of group | Atmosphere | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|
| Mariachi | Festive, traditional, with a lot of presence | Birthdays, May 10, anniversaries, surprises with family |
| Romantic trio | Intimate, guitar and voices | Couples, Valentine's Day, apologies, small spaces |
| Norteño | Cheerful, accordion and bajo sexto | Parties, Dad's birthday, outdoor gatherings |
| Banda | Powerful, for lots of people | Big celebrations and neighborhood parties |
| Rondalla | Nostalgic, chorus and strings | Grandmothers, grandfathers, very traditional serenades |
| Saxophone or violin | Elegant and soft | Dinners, anniversaries, proposals |
| Marimba | Warm and different | Birthdays and family gatherings |
Not all types of groups are listed in every city. In the musicians section you can filter by city and see who is available.
How much does a serenade cost?
It depends on the city, the group and how many songs it includes. What we can tell you with real data is the lowest price published today by musicians on Serenattia (October 2026), before the service fee: in CDMX from MX$1,500, in Puebla from MX$1,300, in Mérida from MX$1,700, in Cancún from MX$1,800, in Querétaro from MX$2,400 and in Guadalajara from MX$4,000. Those are floors, not averages, and each musician publishes their own rate.
In addition to the musician's rate, the client pays a 10% service fee, with a minimum of MX$200. The musician receives 100% of what they published. If you want to compare calmly, check the price index for music in Mexico.
How do you book a serenade without complications?
Designed to be as easy as sending a gift:
- Choose the city and type of group at /musicos.
- Review the musician's visible price and their profile.
- Submit your booking with date, time and address.
- The Serenattia team confirms the availability of the booking.
- You pay 100% when booking. The money is held in escrow and is not released to the musician until the event.
- On the day of the serenade, before they play, you scan the musician's QR code. That scan releases the payment.
That last step is your protection: if the group does not show up, your payment is not released. There is no exclusivity or fine print, and if you need an invoice, it can be issued with VAT (16%) on top.
How do you choose the right serenade for that person?
Ask yourself three questions. First, what is the person like? Someone shy will appreciate a trio at the door more than a full mariachi in front of all the neighbors. Second, where will it be? A patio allows more instruments than a small apartment. Third, how many songs? Three or four are usually enough for an emotional moment without it becoming tiring.
And a golden tip: tell the musician the favorite song and whether there is any song that should be avoided. That turns a nice serenade into a personal one.
