The best home-delivered gifts for mom are the ones that mix something useful or pretty with a personal touch: flowers, a meal, a box of things she likes or a serenade (serenata) at the door of her house. If you want her to be truly moved, live music almost always wins.

What do I give mom if the gift has to arrive at her home?

Sometimes you live far away, sometimes work leaves no time, sometimes you simply want the surprise to arrive on its own. A home-delivered gift solves the logistics, but it should not also solve the emotion in a generic way. These are the most common ideas and who they work best for:

  • Bouquet of flowers: the classic. It works with almost all moms, but competes with hundreds of bouquets on the same day.
  • Meal or breakfast: ideal if she likes having nobody cook that day.
  • Personal care box: creams, candles, tea. For the mom who never pampers herself.
  • An album or a framed set of photos: takes longer to prepare, but stays in the living room for years.
  • A serenade: live music, with the songs she used to sing in the kitchen when you were a child.

If you are looking for something safe, choose flowers. If you are looking for something that will be remembered, choose music.

Why is the serenade such a mom gift?

In Mexico, singing to mom is a tradition we already know by heart: the mañanitas, a José Alfredo song, a bolero that grandma liked. A serenade takes that custom and turns it into a complete moment, with real musicians, with neighbors peeking out and with the family gathered.

You do not need a special reason. It can be her birthday, May 10 (Mother's Day, Día de las Madres), a date when she needs cheering up or simply a Sunday. What matters is that she feels someone took the time to think of her.

Song ideas that usually work

  • Las mañanitas, of course, for any celebration.
  • Classic boleros if she likes the romantic and calm.
  • Rancheras with lyrics of a mother's love, for a little crying.
  • A song she often hums, even if it is not famous. The musician learns it or looks it up if you let them know.

Which musical genre suits mom best?

GenreWhen it makes sense
MariachiFamily party, birthday or May 10. It is the most recognizable.
TrioIf she prefers something calmer and more sentimental, with guitars and soft voices.
RondallaFor nostalgic moms who enjoy songs from another era.
NorteñoIf accordion has always been heard at home.
Violin or saxophoneIf you want something elegant and different, without so much volume.
MarimbaWarm and festive, very nice on terraces and in gardens.

How much does it cost and how is it paid?

The prices published by musicians on Serenattia are visible before booking. The lowest today (October 2026), before the service fee, are: Mexico City from MX$1,500, Puebla from MX$1,300, Mérida from MX$1,700, Cancún from MX$1,800, Playa del Carmen from MX$2,000, Toluca from MX$2,200, Querétaro from MX$2,400, Monterrey from MX$2,500, Cuernavaca from MX$3,600 and Guadalajara from MX$4,000.

A 10% service fee is added to that rate, with a minimum of MX$200. The musician receives 100% of their rate. For example, if the group charges MX$2,500, the fee is MX$250 and the total is MX$2,750. If you need an invoice, it is issued and the 16% VAT (IVA) goes on top. To compare areas and genres, see the music price index for Mexico.

The payment is 100% when you book and is held in escrow. If you will not be present, coordinate it with the Serenattia team when you book. If they do not arrive, the payment is not released.

How do I book it if mom lives in another city?

This is one of the clearest advantages. You can be in one city and give the serenade in another, as long as there are musicians available in that city. The steps are the same:

  1. Open the musicians page and choose the city where she lives.
  2. Compare profiles, genres and visible prices. There is no exclusivity: you decide.
  3. Give the date, time and address. Ask a sibling or neighbor to have her at home.
  4. Pay 100% and wait for the team's confirmation, which checks the availability of the booking.
  5. That day, the person who is with her scans the musician's QR code before they start. That releases the payment.

An honest recommendation: book in advance, especially if it is close to May 10 or a heavily requested date, because availability depends on each musician.

Frequently asked questions

Can I give the serenade and flowers too?

Yes. It is a very common combination: the flowers stay at home and the serenade stays in memory.

What happens if mom is not home at the agreed time?

It pays to coordinate with someone close so she is there. If there are changes, let the team know in good time to review options.

How long does a serenade last?

It depends on the musician and what you agree on when booking. Review the group's profile to see what its rate includes.

How do I know the musician will arrive?

The payment is held in escrow and is only released when you scan the musician's QR code at the event. If they do not arrive, the payment is not released.

Is an invoice available?

Yes, an invoice can be issued. The 16% VAT (IVA) is added to the price.

When you have the date, go to the musicians in your city and pick the one that suits mom best.
