A banda sinaloense in Mérida costs between 6,000 and 15,000 MXN per event of two to three hours. It is the format with the most volume and the most people on stage, so it suits large halls and gardens, not a downtown terrace with the neighbors right up against the wall.

In Yucatán banda is not the home genre, but it is increasingly requested for quinceañeras, weddings and big parties where the family wants the dance floor never to empty. At serenattia we see these quotes all year, and here is what it really costs in Mérida and in which cases it works better than other formats.

What exactly is a banda sinaloense and how many people is it?

A full banda sinaloense has ten to fifteen members, with tambora, snare drum, tuba, clarinets, trumpets and trombones. It carries no electric instruments: everything is wind and percussion, which is why it sounds so loud naturally. There are reduced versions of eight or nine members that are hired quite a lot in Mérida because they lower the price and the space needed without losing the character of the format. What does not change is the volume: a banda, even a reduced one, can be heard several blocks away.

How much does a banda sinaloense cost in Mérida in 2026?

These are the ranges used in the city, within the general range of 6,000 to 15,000 MXN per event.

SetupPrice per eventFor what space
Reduced banda, 2 hours6,000 to 9,000 MXNLarge patio or medium hall
Full banda, 2 to 3 hours9,000 to 13,000 MXNLarge hall or open garden
Full banda with reinforced sound13,000 to 15,000 MXNLarge event, hacienda, open grounds
Travel beyond the periféricoquoted separatelyCholul, Kanasín, Umán, Conkal, Progreso

To compare against the other formats in the city: a DJ starts at 3,000 MXN, a full-hour mariachi runs 3,000 to 3,500 MXN and a versatile party band for the whole event can run 10,000 to 50,000 MXN. The banda sits on the same rung as the norteño, and the decision between those two is almost never about price but about space.

Banda sinaloense or norteño group?

It is the comparison we get asked about the most and the short answer is: if you have open space and want maximum power, banda; if the event is at home, in an enclosed patio or with neighbors nearby, norteño. A banda is ten or more musicians with tambora and brass, takes up a lot of stage front and its volume cannot be turned down at will because it is not amplified sound, it is acoustic and powerful by nature. A norteño group is four or five members with accordion and bajo sexto, fits in any patio and its volume can be controlled from the mixing board. In which parts of Mérida does banda work?

Downtown is where it causes the most problems: houses share walls, streets are narrow and the municipal noise regulation applies just as in any neighborhood. In the north zone, Altabrisa and Cholul there is more garden and land, and there the banda fits in well as long as there is enough stage front. At venues in the north of the city it usually works without problems because they are already set up for high volume, although it is worth confirming the venue's closing time. At the haciendas in the area is where the banda shines best because of the open space, but practically all of them lie beyond the periférico and travel is quoted separately. You can check who covers each area on the page for musicians in Mérida.

How much space and what logistics does it need?

Plan for a wide stage front to fit the row of brass and the tambora, plus space behind for instruments and cases. A stage is not always needed, but if the event is big it is worth having one, because otherwise the people at the back cannot see anything. Ask whether they need power outlets (a purely acoustic banda hardly needs them, but if they will reinforce with microphones they do), what time they arrive to set up and how long each set lasts. The standard is two or three sets with breaks, and in those gaps it is worth having a DJ so the party does not fall flat.

How much does it go up in September?

September 15 sends live music prices soaring across the country, with increases of 30% to 100% over the normal price. A banda that you quote at 9,000 MXN in August may ask you for between 12,000 and 18,000 MXN if you look for it during the week of the Grito. If your event falls on those dates, book weeks ahead and first check how September 15 prices move.

What to put in writing?

The exact number of members who will show up (this is what varies most between what was quoted and what appears), arrival and setup time, number and length of sets, whether it includes reinforced sound, the cost of an extra hour, the travel amount if you are outside the periférico, deposit and cancellation terms. With a banda, the number of musicians is the key point: a banda of nine and one of fourteen sound very different and are sometimes quoted almost the same.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a banda sinaloense cost in Mérida?

Between 6,000 and 15,000 MXN per event of two to three hours. A reduced banda for two hours runs 6,000 to 9,000 MXN, a full banda 9,000 to 13,000 MXN and a full banda with reinforced sound for a large event can reach 15,000 MXN, not counting travel if you are outside the periférico.

Does a banda sinaloense fit in the patio of a house in Mérida?

In a large patio in the north zone or Cholul, yes, especially if you hire the reduced version of eight or nine members. In a downtown house with narrow streets and neighbors right next door, it is not the best idea: a norteño group performs much better there, since it takes up less space and lets you control the volume.

Is banda or a norteño group more expensive in Mérida?

Both fall in the same range of 6,000 to 15,000 MXN per event, so the decision is not about budget but about space and volume. The banda needs a garden or large hall and sounds much louder; the norteño fits in a patio and its volume is controlled from the mixing board.

Do they charge extra if the event is at a hacienda outside Mérida?

Yes. Everything beyond the periférico is quoted separately as travel, and that includes the haciendas in the area, Cholul, Kanasín, Umán, Conkal and Progreso. Ask for the amount in writing from the first message and also confirm the setup window the venue allows.
