To organize a surprise serenata (serenade) where the person does not know who sent it, book the musicians, agree with them on what they will say on arrival, leave an accomplice to receive the group and choose songs that do not give away your identity. The payment is held in escrow until the musicians play.

Can you give a serenade without them knowing who sent it?

Yes, as a gift it can be planned so that the person does not know who is sending it, and it is in fact a fun game: who could it be? The important thing is to agree on the details with the musicians before the day and not promise anything that has not been confirmed with them. Ask when booking whether they can keep the secret, what they will say when they introduce themselves and how they will handle questions from the person or the neighbors.

Keep one thing in mind: the secret is worth keeping only as long as it is a game. If the person becomes uncomfortable or frightened, it is better to reveal the identity. An anonymous serenade works for partners, close friends and relatives, not for someone who expects no gesture at all or might feel watched.

What should you agree on with the musicians to keep the secret?

  • What they will say on arrival. A simple phrase like "someone who loves you very much asked us to come" protects the mystery without lying.
  • Whether they will say the person's name. So they know who they are addressing.
  • What they will do if asked who sent it. Agree on a kind, brief answer.
  • Which songs to avoid. Those that contain obvious clues, like the song that belongs to the two of you.
  • Whether there will be a message or card. To leave a note with no name.

Confirm all of this in writing with the musician before the date. That way you avoid surprises within the surprise.

How do I organize the logistics step by step?

  1. Choose the genre and city in the list of musicians.
  2. Review the rate and profile. The price is visible to everyone.
  3. Define the date and time. When the person is most likely to be at home.
  4. Write down the address and landmarks. The musicians will have no one to ask without breaking the secret.
  5. Leave a trusted contact. Someone who receives the group and lets you know when they arrive.
  6. Pay 100% when you book. The money is held in escrow.
  7. Define who will scan the QR code. If you will not be present, let it be your accomplice.

Which songs work in an anonymous serenade?

The songs have to deliver the message without giving you away. Opt for general romantic or appreciative songs, and leave the personal touch for a card or for revealing it later.

How much does it cost and how is my money protected?

Each musician publishes their rate. The lowest price published today by musicians on Serenattia (October 2026), before the service fee and only in these markets, is: Mexico City from MX$1,500, Puebla from MX$1,300, Querétaro from MX$2,400, Monterrey from MX$2,500, Mérida from MX$1,700 and Cancún from MX$1,800, among others. See the index of music prices in Mexico to compare.

The service fee is 10%, with a minimum of MX$200, and is paid separately. The musician receives 100% of their rate. If you need an invoice, the VAT (16%) goes on top.

You pay 100% when you book and the money is held in escrow. It is released to the musician at the event, when the customer scans the musician's QR code before they play. If they do not arrive, the payment is not released. If you will not be present, coordinate it with the Serenattia team when booking.

What do I do after the serenade?

Decide in advance when to reveal who it was: that same night, the next day or never. If you left a note with no name, you can later send a message with a clue. Ask the accomplice to record a few seconds of the moment, with permission, to keep the memory. And thank the musicians, who are part of the surprise.

When is it better NOT to make it anonymous?

There are situations where revealing who sent the serenade is best. If the person lives alone and could be frightened by unexpected musicians, if there is a complicated relationship in which anonymity can be misread, or if it is about asking for forgiveness (where the one apologizing should show their face), the right thing is to identify yourself. It is also better to reveal it if you are going to send the serenade to a public place or a workplace, where the secret can generate rumors. Think about how the other person will feel three minutes after it starts. If the answer is "confused or uncomfortable," change the plan: a serenade with a name and a dedication is just as beautiful and much safer.
